The tenancy agreements audio book

Helping busy landlords

The Tenancy Agreements AudiobookIts tough being a landlord. So many rules and regulations – how can you ever find the time to learn about them?

Yet can you risk ignoring them? How can you be sure you’re not going to make a fatal mistake?

Tenancy agreements for example – they are crucial for all lettings, but are you doing them right?

Relax – help is at hand with our Tenancy Agreements audiobook

With an audio book you can learn at any time – take advantage of those ‘dead’ periods when your mind is free but you can’t sit down and read a book. For example:

  • In the car – most landlords and letting agents do a huge amount of driving around, visiting properties. Use that time constructively.
  • Working on a property – you may be cleaning or painting walls, but that doesn’t mean you can’t listen and learn
  • Out walking – do you like to walk around the area near your properties to check the neighbourhood and its amenities? Why not learn about tenancy agreements at the same time?
  • At odd moments – waiting in a queue for example, or waiting for a tenant to arrive – if you have a mp3 player in your pocket, those times won’t be wasted

Easier than reading a text book, cheaper than going on a course!

You’ll probably have a few questions ….

Tessa SheppersonHow do I know its any good?

The audiobook is written and read by solicitor Tessa Shepperson.

Tessa has been specialising in landlord and tenant law for over 20 years. Since 2001 she has run Landlord Law, an online information service used by many landlords and agents.

You may have seen her speak at one of the landlord shows. She knows what she is talking about.

Is it easy to use?

If you use an mp3 player such as an ipod, it will be very easy. You buy the mp3 version, then just download the files into your computer and transfer them over.

However if you don’t understand this new fangled mp3 thing, don’t worry. We are also providing the audiobook as good old fashoned CDs, which you can use in your car on or on your stereo.

What does it cover?

Ah! Rather a lot! It’s in 31 parts (plus a conclusion), divided into three sections. These are the individual files or CDs.

Here is a list of all the parts included:

The main content of the audiobook is based on a popular series Tessa published on her Landlord Law blog a year or so ago.  It has been updated and partly re-written, with some completely new content added – plus of course it is more convenient to listen to it than read it!

Do we get a transcript?

Yes, or rather you get the scripts that Tessa read from when recording. They are provided in a nice pdf document, with all the sections clearly laid out.

We also give you the times when each section ends so you can find them easily on the audio, say if you want to listen to a particular part again.

“The idea is great and the audio, together with the audio script works really well” Joyce FitzGerald, Landlord & Letting agent

So how much does it cost?

  • The mp3 (download) version of the audiobook is £35
  • The CD version is £41.
  • The CD version is more expensive as we need to buy the CDs and CD case, put the files on them, and then physically send them out to you (which costs money!).
  • If you buy both versions (eg one for your mp3 player and one to listen to in the car) this will cost £50.
  • Also all purchasers will be able to join the  special ‘tenancy agreements audiobook purchasers mailing list’, which we will use to let you know of any new editions, which you will then be able to buy at a discounted price.
“The audio book is an invaluable tool for all busy landlord and property professionals”  Pat Newland, landlord

So, to summarise, how will the tenancy agreements audiobook help you?

Listening to the tenancy agreements audiobookLandlords:

  • You will know more and will understand how to avoid making mistakes, giving you peace of mind
  • It will give you the confidence to do more yourself, saving you the cost of expensive professionals
  • Even you have no alternative but to use agents, how can you judge whether they are doing a good job if you don’t understand things yourself?

Agents:

  • Drafting tenancy agreements is an important part of your job, so you need to know as much about them as possible
  • The audiobook can be used by everyone in your office – unlike sending a member of staff on a course which will only benefit them
  • If all your staff, even the most junior members, have a proper understanding of tenancy agreements, there will be less chance of expensive mistakes being made in the office

Local Authority caseworkers / housing advisors

  • It will give you an understanding of how the private rented sector operates – helping you to advise both landlords and tenants
  • You can use it as the basis for staff training (our CPD test could be useful for this too)
  • It is considerably cheaper than attending a course and will be available to you permanently
  • Staff will be able to learn quickly – helpful for new staff members moving departments who will be expected to learn new skills quickly
